What most people don't realize is that the ideas that spring out the mind that are tossed effortlessly aside are actually small pieces to a completely unique and profound creation. You hold within you the ability to put these pieces together by merely writing them down. Learn how to tie these ideas together to create something even you didn't know you were capable of.
Most people don’t realize the importance of keeping a journal. I’m not just talking about keeping a journal of the events of your day, but a written record of inspiration. It is so easy to believe that ideas that could change your life an career come from outside, through reading inspiring stories from other’s successes, but do you know where they received this inspiration? From listening to the inspiration that was expressing itself from within.
Have you ever had one of these moments… One where you have a great idea, but then it seems to vanish into thin air? You wonder, "Where did it go?" Ever think about where it came from?
All great ideas came in the form of thought. Original thought. All great people throughout humanity have expressed these original ideas, many of them being shot down and criticized. But, let’s examine this… What if Thomas Edison quit after failing the first time when creating the light bulb? What if he quit the 10th time? Or the 100th time? How about this… What if he quit after the 9,999th time?
Did you know it took him 10,000 times to perfect the light bulb?? Ten thousand! Can you imagine trying and failing 10,000 times? What is most inspiring about Thomas Edison is his expression of thought put into form.
You may or may not believe this, but you have the same capabilities as any great inventor or “guru” in creating an original idea. What you probably didn’t know is that the idea doesn’t just “pop” into your head in one big swoop and then take form. What happens is this, a small idea will come to the mind, and is insisting on being remembered by way of written or recorded form. Once this idea takes form, another will emerge. Then, another. And, so on. This begins to build essentially until all forms unite to create what we now see as a really great idea! An invention or creation totally unique from anything else we have seen or heard of before.
But, wait a minute….. What will happen if we don’t write it down? Where does it go? Worse yet, how are we going to build upon it if we don’t keep records of these seemingly small ideas? Have you ever thought that these build to essentially create something large?
Ok, so maybe keeping a journal is more important than you thought. Does it have to be something fancy? Absolutely not! You can keep a 3X5 note card in your wallet or hand bag. Anything will do that has quick and easy access. I love to use the 5 Star 5″ X 7″ Notebook. It’s small, but not too small. It works for me.
I suggest just going to your local office supply store and letting the notebook section to “speak” to you. Something will pop out at you that will be perfect for all your thought provoking ideas.
A couple helpful things to keep in mind when writing:
Carry it everywhere. You never know when a great idea might spring up, and you’ll always want to be ready for it when it comes. We don’t want you to miss anything!
Always take notes. This may seem like a tedious thing to do, but you never know how something someone says could be significant to the fruition of your ideas.
Pay attention to anything worth writing down. If it sounds good at the time, it will be useful for something in the future.
Write all ideas. Remember, your ideas can take form to make something great. We don’t want you to miss your opportunity!
Write everyday. It doesn’t have to be anything crazy! Just a few thoughts will do. Most of the time, you will begin to see a pattern emerge that will inspire you to write more.
Review your journal. Remember, it’s the accumulation of thoughts that form to create the large ones. Past thoughts and ideas will be helpful and important in the future. Nothing is ever lost that is written down.
So, what will you write about today?
